japan lifestyle salon and spa

aveda opens a door to the east.

In September 2003, Aveda opened its first Lifestyle Salon and Spa in Japan, a Tokyo site in which aesthetics and environmentalism share equal space. Its purpose: to connect a new community of people to a life style grounded in wellness, beauty and environmental responsibility. In every aspect—from its pure plant products to its organic cafe to its ecological design—the site embodies the spirit and practice of the Aveda mission.

pure products, sourced in nature.
The Aveda Experience Center, on the ground floor, offers our full line—more than 172 plant-based hair care, skin care, body care, aroma and life style products—to soothe, nurture, refresh or inspire. Complimentary Aveda experiences include a Sensory Journey, Stress Relieving Experience or Hands-On Experience.

full-service, personalized experiences.
The Aveda Lifestyle Salon, on the second floor, is led by creative director Miho Matsuura. It is committed to creating current style—in a nurturing setting where clients can relax and unwind. The salon offers cut, color, perming and styling services, as well as complimentary Sensory Experiences and individualized hair care recommendations.

The Aveda Lifestyle Spa, on the basement level, offers transporting treatments, each customized according to Aveda's new holistic spa philosophy: Elemental NatureSM. After a personalized skin care consultation, clients receive signature treatments such as a Hydromat (Hydrotherm™ in the U.S.) Treatment, Himalayan Rejuvenation Treatment or Rosemary Mint Awakening Body Wrap—plus recommendations to help bring the relaxation home.

environmental commitment, floor to ceiling.
Even the location itself was designed to embody Aveda's environmental mission—by minimizing its ecological impact:
•  Fixtures and furniture throughout are made with Tamo Oak, a locally sourced wood harvested to control soil erosion
•  Wood flooring and stairs are Sokoita wood, reclaimed from a demolished century-old farmhouse in Hida Takayama
•  Cabinets are made from compressed corn sorghum stalks
•  Solar panels are installed on the roof to facilitate energy efficiency
•  Walls are finished with low VOC (volatile organic compound) paints that are non-toxic and non-polluting
•  Bicycle parking is provided, to encourage cleaner means of travel

Other elements emphasize a connection to the Earth: spa treatment room walls are made from a combination of soil, straw, sand and watery clay from the Kochi area, which solidifies naturally, without synthetic hardening agents. The space is also home to a variety of plants chosen for their air purification properties and their relationship to Aveda products.

a taste for the organic.
To nourish body as well as spirit, Aveda offers the Pure CafeSM, serving soups, sandwiches and salads prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients that have been organically grown. And to help eliminate waste, the Pure Cafe avoids using disposable dishware, encourages customers to use refillable coffee cups, and offers a lunch bag—made of organic cotton—to replace paper bags.
